Tips For a Successful Website - How to Optimise Your Meta Tags

A very important part of making your pages on your website more 'accessible' to the search engines are the META tags. There are a number of  meta tags but for the purposes of this introductory article we concentrate on the META DESCRIPTION and META KEYWORDS.  These would be considered the most important tags for site placing in search engines.

Meta Description

These are the words that will appear in the text of the listing of most search engines when you do a search. These are the words that the reader will see.  Make the description interesting and relevant to your page or site. For example - which one would you click on if your were looking for help and guidance on making money on-line

1. Make Money On-line.

or

2. Learn how to make money on-line by coaching from an on-line multi millionaire, watch and follow the videos step by step to earn the income you deserve.

Make the description interesting and relevant to attract customers  to spend time on your website.

Meta Keywords.

An example of a meta description words would be meta name="KEYWORDS" content="make money on-line dot com on-line money">

Some rules for META DESCRIPTION tags:

1. You should not go more than about 500 characters or some search Engines will ignore them.

2. Do not repeat keywords more than three times.

3. Most advise you should separate the keywords with commas. Personally the writer has found that leaving the commas out works better.

4. Make sure your keywords are relevant to your pages' content.

5. Your meta tags on every page of your website should be different.  This is a lot of work but it is essential. You should spend as much time and effort thinking of what your visitors are likely to be typing into the search box at the search engines as what you spend on designing your page.

Following the small steps above and taking the time the carefully choose your meta tags and description will help make your web pages more accessible to search engines  to index your pages and contribute to which pages are or web sites are returned in a search.
